  87. Domesday Book was William the Conqueror’s great survey of England of 1086. The easiest way to get started is to simply search by place name or post code; from there you can zoom and pan around the map to further investigate Domesday. Place names have been automatically extracted and located on the map, so some errors may occur.

  91. This project from the University of Glasgow has information on civil registration in Scotland 1855-1939. It explains how the statistics were collected, gives biographies of some of the officials involved and looks at the social history of this period. As well as birth, marriage and death, headings include census, health and disease, war and national registration etc.
