  1. Search over 130,000 digitised images of buildings, archaeology and industry in Scotland. Also includes some building plans and diagrams.
  2. This site is a comprehensive modern gazetteer for Scotland which also includes entries from the Ordnance Gazetteer of Scotland 1882-1885. There are historical maps showing county boundaries and photographs.
  3. Information on places in Scotland arranged by county or you can search the whole database. Results include maps, photographs, Ordnance Survey name books and medical officer reports from the 19th Century. These reports give useful background information on living conditions and diseases prevalent in particular parts of Scotland.
  4. This site has a wonderful collection of photographs submitted by users. Its aim is to collect photographs for every square kilometre of Great Britain and Ireland and there are already over 2 million images available. Search by place and you can then refine the search by adding keywords. This is a great resource for images of churches, old houses and more.
  5. The National Library of Scotland has loaded many of its historic photographs onto Flickr.
