  18. The Maritime History Archive in Canada holds about 70% of surviving UK crew lists. Search by the official ship number (which can be located in Lloyds Register of Shipping or through the CLIP website) to find where crew lists are held. Copies of those held at the MHA can be ordered for a fee.

  19. This useful aid is part of the FamilySearch website and enables you to search for places in England on an 1851 map. Boundaries are shown for county, parish, civil registration district, rural deanery, poor law union and hundred. It lists smaller places within each parish, shows the extent of parish registers and much more. By selecting Layers you can also switch to a modern Google map, Streetview or satellite image.

Medway Council has quite a lot of digital content on its CityArk website including parish registers from the Rochester Archdeaconry area, North Aylesford licensing registers, Port of Rochester shipping registers, hospital records, burial records and more. The digital content is not searchable so it has to be browsed.

  28. Domesday Book was William the Conqueror’s great survey of England of 1086. The easiest way to get started is to simply search by place name or post code; from there you can zoom and pan around the map to further investigate Domesday. Place names have been automatically extracted and located on the map, so some errors may occur.

A new search tool available on the Guild of One-Name Studies site which allows you to track down where an Anglican wedding took place in England or Wales using the General Register Office index reference.   99. The Roll of the Royal College of Physicians of London was first published in 1861.
    The College has a near-complete collection of obituaries, making it a valuable biographical resource for those interested in medical and social history, and for family historians.
    Selected historical entries, as well as Volume XII can be read freely online, and a searchable index to all printed entries is also available.

  100. Online index allows searching for burials over three cemeteries. You can then purchase a copy of the burial record as long as the burial was at least 75 years ago. Information may include date of death, cause of death and address.
